Tigerlyfe MMA sponsored athlete, Ryan “Loborious” Castro (0-1-0) gets to make his Bellator debut this weekend in front of his home crowd at Bellator 208: Fedor vs. Sonnen.
Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix takes place Saturday October 13, at the NYCB Live Theatre (Formerly Nassau Coliseum) in Uniondale, NY.
Castro, born and raised in Patchogue, Long Island, trains at No Limits Kickboxing/MMA, under Second Degree Blackbelt in Taekwondo, Rick Schaefer, in Middle Island,NY. (Schaefer, a competitive Kickboxer with an undefeated record of 10-0-0, is also a Tigerlyfe sponsored athlete.)
Ryan is married (and credits much of his career success) to his high school sweetheart, Jennifer, a Registered Nurse at Stony Brook University Hospital. The couple recently purchased a home in Coram, NY, and are expecting a baby girl, Kiara Joy, in February 2019. Congratulations to the Castros!
After overcoming an Auto Immune Disease in his youth that required chemotherapy treatments, and inspired following the passing of his grandfather, who held multiple black belts in Karate, Ryan Castro has dedicated himself completely to the sport of MMA.
While Ryan will be appearing in his second pro fight this weekend, he has been cutting his teeth fighting with on the local amateur circuit since 2014. Compiling a record of 12-4-0 with local promotions – MMA Platinum Gloves, KTFO, NYFE, and Triton Fights – “Loborious” has stayed busy, sharpening his skills and developing a reputation for being willing to fight anyone, at anytime.
Castro always looks to capitalize on the opportunity to showcase his talents and is disappointed anytime a fight of his is left in the hands of the judges. Over his fight career, Castro has proven to be a duel threat, capable of finishing a fight via submission (Triton Fights 5), or by knockout (Triton Fights 4).
While Ryan says you can’t replace the thrill and adrenaline of a knockout, he says by forcing your opponent to tap/quit, a Submission win is the ultimate craft accomplishment, and plus he “loves to choke people”. 😊 🥋👊🏻
Castro lost a decision in his pro debut to Pat Casey at CES MMA 49 in April, taking the fight on short notice. Ryan is grateful for his sponsors Cherry Vita (recovery), Hummus Fit (diet), and Tigerlyfe MMA for allowing him to be in a good position to succeed heading into his fight against Dennis Buzukja (3-1-0 Amateur record) Buzukja, a member of the Serra-Longo Fight Team, trains at LAW MMA in Garden City, and will making his pro debut at Bellator 208.
Ryan would like to give a shout out and dedicate this fight to his Grandma Milli, who is battling cancer, and who has always been in his corner. ♥️
Good luck in your Bellator debut, Ryan. 👊🏻
