Apple held its annual iPhone Event on Wednesday, September 12th, 2018.

They introduced 3 new iPhones, 2 Apple watches and their newest operating system.

All of these products will be available before the end of October.

The first two phones are the new iPhone XS (ten-ess) and the XS Max (ten-ess max). Both phones have some totally new features and improvements, including:

  • the most durable glass ever on an iPhone
  • improved water resistance
  • a Super Retina display
  • a dual SIM card system
  • the new “A12 Bionic” chip
  • a display with better dynamic range
  • wider stereo sound from the speakers
  • speed increases to Face ID
  • 3 storage options – 64 GB, 256 GB and for the first time 512 GB
  • phones come in gold, silver and space gray

There is a laundry list of new improvements to the camera that are directly related to the use of the A12 chip. The flash has been improved, the dual cameras are improved, Smart HDR is a new feature that has been added and is professed to be able to give you the perfect photo, every time. You’ll notice the difference especially when taking pictures into the sun. The bokeh is much improved here and is now comparable to Samsung. The video capabilities have been improved and coupled with elevated stereo sound quality.

The XS has a 5.8” screen and the XS Max has a whopping 6.5” display. The bezels have been scaled back to almost non-existent giving a much larger screen in basically the same size phone as the iPhone 10.

The iPhone XS starts at $999 while the XS Max starts at $1099. Preorders begin on September 14th and the official release date of these phones is September 21st.

Next is the iPhone XR, the new budget end product. The big news here is color and LOTS of it. Yellow was the most requested color and this is a true yellow. Other available colors are blue, red and of course the silver and space gray. It has the most advanced LCD screen ever which they are calling Liquid Retina. This phone does also have the Apple A12 chip. It has tap-to-wake. The camera is improved and this also has the advanced bokeh control.

The iPhone XR starts at $749. Preorders for the 10R begin on October 19th and the official release date of this phone is October 26th.

The newest Apple watch is the Series 4 which comes in in two versions, the 40mm and the 44mm. As with the newest iPhones, the bezels on the face have been reduced so the watch is basically the same size but there is more visible screen. This totally redesigned version of the watch has a heart rate sensor with an electrocardiogram on the back. This feature has actually been approved by the FDA. It also has a fall detection feature. The speakers on this watch have been upgraded to be 50% louder. There is a new S4 64 bit dual core processor which is 2 times faster than the previous generation. There are 3 aluminum finishes, 3 stainless steel and 3 in the new gold stainless color. All of the old bands you might have will still be compatible with this watch.

The GPS watches start at $399 while the Cellular versions start at $499. Preorders begin on September 14th and the watches will then be available on September 21st.

Last, but not least is the roll-out of the improved iOS. New features include Siri shortcuts, which let you set reminders and instructions. Augmented reality is a focus of the new version and users will be able to use the camera to transform their surroundings with AR. The release date for iOS is September 17th.

So there you have it. If you are an Apple lover, you have a lot to be excited about. If you are considering trying an Apple product, the time couldn’t be better.
